Aurum is a computer program that automatically collects and groups data. Aurum can be configured to perform many different kinds of matching, including cash-to-bank reconciliation, stock and securities reconciliations, allocations, ledger reconciliations, duplicate invoice detection, name and address matching, and matching of staff records from multiple sources.
Most implementations of Aurum are configured to perform cash-to-bank reconciliation, where the transactions in an organisation's general ledger are matched (or reconciled) to the transactions recorded in the organisation's bank statements. Cash-to-bank reconciliation is an important accounting function, as it protects companies from potentially fraudulent transactions on their accounts as well as maintaining an accurate picture of the company's current financial position.
Aurum requires each user to log in so that they can be identified to the system and verified as a current user.
Once a user has successfully logged in, the functions that they can perform are defined by the system's administrator. An Aurum administrator is responsible for defining users, specifying their permissions, defining accounts and other administrative requirements around those accounts, such as where each account pulls its data from. Each installation must have at least one administrator. Users can be granted partial administration privileges to perform particular functions on accounts, but generally cannot grant those privileges to themselves - meaning that two administrators may be required.
Users who are not administrators will be presented with the Accounts tab giving summary information about each account they are authorised to view and process.
Aurum administrators will need to choose whether they are administering accounts, users or some other aspect of the system. See the Accounts Administration, Product Administration, Users or Other Administration sections for further information.
